Dinner at Hummus Bar & Israeli Independence Day Celebration, kinda

A few weeks ago during Passover weekend, we join Tal's sister and her boyfriend along with their nephew in Oxnard. We went hiking at the Santa Monica mountains along the Pacific Coast Highway. After that, we drove down to Santa Monica and decided to try Hummus Bar Express at the 3rd St Promenade. It was my first time there and I recalled Groupon has a promotion on them so we purchased 4 entree for 50% off. Unfortunately, when Tal went to order, they pointed the fine print that the coupon is only valid during weekdays excluding Friday.

We were hungry and cranky by that time, so decided to order the food anyway. Tal ordered the Chicken Shawerma with Laffa and I got the Falafel - they were both really good or we were just hungry.

Anyway, since we had the coupon, we came back on Israeli Independence Day (on a Apr 23, Thu) to kinda celebrate. Since the coupon was for 4 plates, we opted for Chicken shawarma with Israeli chopped salad and the veggie plate which consists of falafel, baba ganoush, hummus. Laffa is served with any plate entree, but the server forgot to bring when I shot this. We ordered two other entrees to go - grilled beef kabob and chicken shawarma. The fresh laffa was really awesome, Tal made a big burrito with his chicken shawarma and I tore the laffa to eat the falafel and dips.

When I visited Israel last year in May 2014, it also coincided with Memorial/Independence Day, it was a big celebration with events and fireworks. That night, we also brought some of our own fireworks that we purchased from our winter roadtrip late last year. We exited the fwy and found a dark corner to light up the fireworks. To our surprise a small one about the size of half a golf ball which cost $5 for a dozen shot up about 40-50ft high and let out a big bang. It's too bad we didn't buy more!
